Binh Thuy Ancient House in Can Tho, Vietnam

The old fold-song has the sentence: “Can Tho white rice clear water, who going there whose heart does not want to return.”. Granted by nature, fresh fruit, abundant shrimp fish, Can Tho is the destination of many visitors. Being a family that likes traveling, last Sunday, a nice day, we visited this famous Can Tho land region. After visiting Ninh Kieu Wharf, Cai Rang Floating Market, we visited Binh Thuy Ancient House, a house that many visitors used to come to visit.

In front of the ancient house campus, from the outside looking into, we saw the fence and the three-entrance gate made of concrete and steel very solid and majestic. I thought I was standing in front of a villa of French people. We stepped into the inside, in front of our eyes was an aiding gate. The gate of Binh Thuy Ancient House was built according to traditional western architectural style. It had 4 round wood pillars and covered with styles.

Passing the aiding gate, we saw the overall picture of the house. In front of Binh Thuy Ancient House, there were some flowers and ornamental trees. They helped the house to be fresher and more charming. The house was built on the stone foundation with the height of about 1m. Linking the yard and the house was 4 staircases having bow shape that looked gentle graceful. The front of the house was a square pillar row made of cement. At the tops of pillars had patterns carved skillfully. Pillars connected each other made into frames with half-moon shaped tops. Above the frames, there were patterns carved very cleverly. Behind the corridor was 5 doors and some large windows made of wood and painted light blue, making a comfortable feeling.

Stepping into the inside of the house, we saw a spacious space. The pillar row made of ironwood divided the house into 5 compartments. The ceiling had patterns having simple lines and pleasant colors. On the ceiling, in the centers of compartments, there were round white chandeliers of European style, which were in the twentieth century. On the wall, above, there is a pattern line, making the space in the house more warmly. Under the pattern line is decorations such as pictures, Calendar, and photos, making the house look aristocratic.

The floor of the house was covered of flower bricks brought from France, harmonious color and line. Along main pillars, there were horizontal lacquered boards, antithetical couplet boards, welts painted vermilion, stuck gold looking ancient. The furniture in the house was arranged orderly. The main compartment had an altar and a set of tables and chairs made of precious wood.

In particular, Binh Thuy Ancient House contained in it a valuable “antique store” that had been preserved for a long time in which there were two sets of tables and chairs made from Yunnan – China (the table faces made of marble, the diameter of1.5m, the thickness of 6 cm), one sofa set in the French style, the time of Louis 15, and one porcelain vase with the height of 1.2 m made in China.

Around Binh Thuy Ancient House was a large orchid garden with all kinds. In the garden, there were summer- houses, artificial mountains, stone benches. Walking along the orchid garden, but I thought I was in sight of fairy. Leaving the Ancient House, I felt nostalgic extremely, wanted to be here forever, living a peaceful life.
