Christ the King Cathedral, Khanh Hoa, Vietnam

Nha Trang City is famous for beautiful beaches, delicious local foods, unique culture, beautiful architectures including Christ the King Cathedral – a worth-visiting site in Nha Trang. Christ the King Cathedral (its common name is Nha Trang Cathedral, Nha Trang Mountain Church or Nha Trang Stone Church) is located at 31 Thai Nguyen Street, Phuoc Tan Ward, Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province. The cathedral lies on a Hill looking out Nha Trang Railway Station.

The cathedral was started building in 1928 and finished in 1933 under the leadership of French Priest Louis Vallet and Architect Nesty. The cathedral has the area of 720m2. The main material to build it is reinforced concrete and split Rock. Looking generally, the cathedral is a cubic having steps higher and higher. The bell tower has the height of 38m, on the top is a cross, under the cross are 4 clocks looking out 4 directions. Inside the bell tower has a bell set made by the famous factory of Bourdon Carillond.

Nha Trang Cathedral is built according to Gothic architecture style with characters as the tops of the doors and the windows having leaf shape, and the domes having bent and pointed shape. The inside of the cathedral has 3 departments of which the middle department is the largest. The patterns decorated inside are lines, making simple and solemn beauty. Besides, to exploit the sunshine, many kinds of colored glass are put into the tops of the windows. In the Saint Place, there is the statue of Jesus Christ on the cross which makes people think of his love for human beings.

In spite of more than 80 years, through much rain and sunshine, Christ the King Cathedral remains architecture value before. In the present, the cathedral is put into the list of relic and beautiful sights of Khanh Hoa province and the list of Top 10 famous cathedrals in Vietnam. It is not only the place where Christians of Nha Trang come to attend ceremonies but also the place that attracts tourists everywhere coming for sightseeing.
