Vietnamese Pho – Beef noodle soup

Vietnamese Pho – Beef noodle soup

Vietnamese Pho (or Vietnamese beef noodle soup, Vietnamese beef noodle udon) is a kind of rice noodle soup which consists of broth, meat, linguine-shaped rice noodles. The dish is Vietnam’s national dish and originated in North Vietnam in the early 20th century. Today it has become more and more popular in Vietnam and other countries in the world. We eat this beef noodle soup at any time of day so that you can find hundreds of Pho shops and stalls on the streets in Vietnam, especially in a big city such Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang…

The recipes of Vietnamese Pho vary but it’s special because of the broth which is cooked from bone and cinnamon, star aniseed, ginger, onion and black cardamom for from 6 to 8 hours. The toppings can be beef and/or beef tendon, beef ball or chicken. The noodles, broth, and toppings are put into a bowl, chopsticks and spoon are used to eat the dish. There’s nothing to be served with Vietnamese Pho in North Vietnam. However a Southern-style Pho is served with a plate of veggies and bean sprout, lime wedge, chopped chili, black soybean paste and chili sauce. The Hanoi and Saigon style Pho noodle soups come in different widths of noodles and the richness levels of broth.
