Tien Giang – Must to know

The province of Tien Giang is in the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam. The province is between the country’s Southern Key Economic Zone and the Mekong Delta, which makes it a popular place for both work and pleasure. On the coast, aquaculture is a big part of the economy. Inland, most of the land is used for fruit gardens and rice fields.

Tien Giang Province is just south of HCMC. It is an economic powerhouse and a center for culture and tourism in Southern Vietnam. As part of the Mekong Delta, the area is mostly flat and has a lot of waterways, which help the crops grow. Tien Giang has caught the attention of tourists because it has a little bit of everything to keep you busy.

Most visitors will go straight to My Tho, which is the capital of the province. Tourists often stop in My Tho City on their way to places like Cao Lanh and Vinh Long, which are only a few hours away. Many southern towns, like HCMC, which is about 70 km (44 mi) to the north of My Tho and takes about an hour and a half to drive to, are linked to the city by road.

    History of Tien Giang Province

A long time ago, the Khmer Empire, which was based in Cambodia, ruled over Tien Giang Province. Under the Khmer, the area was not developed until the late 1600s, when Chinese people moved into what is now My Tho and started a small town. With the help of newcomers, the city and province started to grow, and Tien Giang became one of the biggest trade areas in Southern Vietnam.

At the beginning of the 17th century, local Vietnamese from Ngu Quang began to move to Tien Giang. This led to more changes. Rice fields and fruit gardens were planted on land that used to be empty. With all the farming going on, the area got richer, and the money that came in helped to start new towns.

During the time of settlement, the French chose Tien Giang because it was a nice place to live. The French had an effect on the area for almost 100 years, and you can still see it in the society and buildings today.

Things to know before traveling to Tien Giang – My Tho and Cai Be

My Tho is by far the most popular place to visit in Tien Giang Province, but there are a few other places that tourists like to go. Cai Be Town, Cho Gao District, and Go Cong Dong District are more rural and less crowded places that tourists should visit.

    My Tho

My Tho was built next to the My Tho River and got its name from it. Because it is in the Mekong Delta and has a lot of crops, it is a place where people go for work and pleasure. The My Tho River runs through the city and is an important source of water for farmers in the area.

Tourism is booming in the city, which depends a lot on its agriculture, ethnic culture, and natural scenery. Many tourists go to My Tho from HCMC, which is just over an hour away. Visitors can go on tours of the local farms and rice fields or take a boat ride down the famous Mekong River.

Thoi Son and Con Phung are islands in the Mekong River that have beautiful parks, pagodas, and restaurants. People who want to learn more about the culture of the area can go to Vinh Trang Pagoda, walk through its grounds, and look at the big figure of Buddha there.

    Cai Be Town

Cai Be Town is at the point where the Tien River flows through three provinces. Because of its floating shops, it has become a popular place for tourists to visit. Local goods, like fish and fruit, are sold by people in their boats along the river, making a unique market. The Cai Be Floating Market is known for being a bit wild and disorganized, so it’s best to go with a local guide.
