Our talented guide with the motorbike picks you up at your hotel (or any location requested by you). After a short riding instruction and program introduction of the Saigon After Dark Tour by Motorbike, we hop on the motorbike. The guide makes sure you are ok on the motorbike before weaving around the main streets and narrow alleyways to see the city. Firstly, we stop at tourist attractions in District 1 including Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, Saigon Central Post Office where you admire the beauty of old French architectural works, learn more about history and culture, take the most beautiful photos in the city. If you have visited these places on another tour, we can skip them. A lovely book street next to the post office is worth wandering.
Leaving the post office, we pass by Venerable Thich Quang Duc Monument. We will tell you some less-known history and story about the monk and his unburned heart. We stop at over 30-year-old Bot Chien Dat Thanh – the oldest and most famous places to eat Pan-fried scrambled egg rice cake.
Head to District 3 and a Nguyen Thien Thuat apartment buildings which were built in the 1960s and have been home to lots of Saigon people. There you can see the real Saigon local life at night. Then we head to District 10 and stop at Ho Thi Ky flower market which is a huge wholesale flower market hidden in alleyways of Ho Thi Ky Street. The guide and you walk through the market to see thousands of colorful flowers, fresh vegetables, live animals, and many strange things in the local market. We also troll into a Cambodian market inside the flower market to see how locals sell and buy everything from foods to condiments. How about trying to grill a banana girdle cake until smelling and crispy? I believe that you can do that and enjoy the amazing cake.
Stopping at a long-standing Broken rice restaurant, we buy a portion of Broken rice and eat at the next stop. Broken rice should not be missed on a Saigon food tour because it is a specialty food of the city. It is a perfect blend of the broken rice, grilled pork, cucumber, pickles, green onion oil, sweet and sour fish sauce dip. Then we drive along Saigon channels in District 8 and show you stilt houses and slum area, the scene shows a sharp contrast between rich and poor live in the city. On the way, you can see Saigon floating market where vendors and their families live, cook, eat, sleep, even take care of dogs, grow chickens right on the boats. Hopping on a unique cafe on a boat floating on Saigon channel, we enjoy iced fresh sugarcane juice and eat the Broken rice.
We continue the journey and drive through District 4 – a tiny humble island district separated from the city’s other parts by channels and rivers. This area is the former mafia hotspot run by Nam Cam notorious crime boss. A drive around Xom Chieu Market – one of the most hustle and bustle markets and food areas in the city gives you an insider view of this special district. We stop at a famous street food stall to enjoy the soft, smooth, lightly sweet, greasy Flan cake topped some ice and Vietnamese black coffee.
Drive through Thu Thiem Tunnel and reach District 2 which is on the way to become a new urban area, political and economic center of the city. The view of Saigon at night from District 2 is really amazing and should not be missed by any travelers. The guide drives around Ben Thanh night market if you would like to see it.
Lastly, the guide returns you to your hotel. It is time to say goodbye, tour ends but memories last forever.
