Bui Vien street along with De Tham street and Pham Ngu Lao street is called backpacker area.

Before the 1990s, Bui Vien is as normal as another street in Saigon. After the 1990s when Vietnam opened the door and welcome first foreigners to our country, Bui Vien street has become busier and busier.

Began from Pham Ngu Lao street, travel company like Sinh Cafe was started for business. Afterward other travel services like restaurants, hotels, cafes…have been opened on neighboring streets. For 20 years, this area has been changed fast that it couldn’t be recognized.

Pham Ngu Lao street is beautiful with standard hotels, big restaurants and splendid cafes on one side and recently built park on the other. De Tham street is full of travel companies and offices as well as bar including big or small, Western-style or Asian style. And Bui Viet street is the most crowded, bustle and entertaining in the area with many small bars on pavements.

Bui Vien street has been well-known by another name “Bia Bet” (Beer Sitting-plump). Come to this non-sleeping street, locals or foreigners, girls or boys sit on plastic sheets on the pavements, drink a couple of beers, have leisurely chat until early morning.
