Truc Lam Zen Buddhist Temple

Talking about Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm (Truc Lam Zen Buddhist Temple),  most of us immediately think of Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm in Dalat. We do not know that in Cantho, Dong Thap, Tien Giang also have thiền viện (Zen Buddhist temples) named Trúc Lâm. Those are Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Phương Nam, Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Tháp Mười, Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Chánh Giác. Today, we will discover Thiền Viện that has few people knowing but has many highlights, Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Chánh Giác in Tiền Giang.

Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Chánh Giác is located in Thanh Tan Commune, Tan Phuoc District, Tien Giang Province. The total area of the temple is 30ha – One of the Buddhist temples having the largest area in Southeast Asia.

Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Chánh Giác was started building in 2010. At that time Super Buddhist Monk Thích Thanh Từ was still healthy, he wanted to build a Zen Buddhist temple in Mekong River Delta so that the people had a spiritual refuge. This wish was supported by the local people and government. Through years of active construction, the temple was inaugurated in 2015.

The three-entrance arched gate is designed according to the ancient shape – bent roofs and red tiles, but the material is mainly reinforced concrete. The central entrance has the word line “Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Chánh Giác”.

Passing the gate, we see a large yard, behind the yard is the main building. On the left is the bell tower and on the right is the drum tower. The structure of the main hall was built firmly with large pillars. The roof is built in two-story style, the upper floor is narrower than the lower floor. The roof is bent and covered with red tiles. Buddha Hall is a place put many different statues. The central area is the place where Buddha Shakyamuni is worshiped, on both sides of Buddha Hall is the place where the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra and the Bodhisattva Manjushri are worshiped. The statue of Shakyamuni placed in the center of the hall is a statue carved from jade with the height of up to 4.5 meters and the weight of 30 tons, made by Burmese artisans. On the pillars and the walls have parallel sentences, versus aiming to teach people to become good.

Specially, so that everyone imagines the main places in the life of the Buddha, the Zen Buddhist Temple designed 4 works including the Tower of Lumbini – the place where the Buddha was born; Tower of Bodhgaya – where the Buddha attained enlightenment; Tower of the Dhamma – Where the Buddha taught the first and Kushinagar – where the Buddha entered Nirvana. Besides, The campus has many green trees, bonsais, which makes the temple fresher and cooler.

With the spacious land region and many green trees, with the solemn main hall and gentle face of the Buddha, with works talking about the Buddha’s history, all bring to us the peace in the mind. If you are going to visit Tien Giang, you should write in your traveling plan a name “Thiền Viện Trúc Lâm Chánh Giác”.
