Covers 10 hectares of Saigon, Tao Dan Park is one of the most peaceful spots and popular sites not only for locals but also for visitors in Ho Chi Minh City. Tao Dan Park is an ideal place to escape crowded and bustle Ho Chi Minh city with 1000 lush green trees. If you have a chance to come to Saigon, don’t miss the fresh air and sense of calm the park radiates.
During the French colonial period, Tao Dan area was an area in the garden of Norodom Palace (today the Independence Palace). In 1869, the French government built Miss Clavell street, which cut the area from the garden. The other three streets around the park were Chasseloup-Laubat street (North), rue Verdun (West) and rue Taberd (South). The official name of the garden was Jardin de la Ville. Vietnamese people usually called it “Vườn Ông Thượng” or “Vườn Bờ-rô”.

The park is split down the middle by Truong Dinh street but you may not recognize that it’s a street because it’s shaded by lines of trees and the fresh air. There is a replica of Nha Trang’s famous Cham tower, Hung King Temple, an active Buddhist temple and many statues in the park. Sculpted shrubbery and bench-lined walks are also a highlight of the park.
