The first day – Saigon center and Cu Chi Tunnels (Ben Duoc)

Morning – must-see tourist attractions in the city center

We will pick you up at the international Tan Son Nhat airport in the morning of the first day (or on the previous day) and drop you off at your hotel to check in. You can arrive at the hotel one day before to make sure that you rest enough before joining our amazing tours in Ho Chi Minh City. We will discuss about this when you contact us.

You will eat some healthy food for breakfast at your hotel or at a local restaurant. After breakfast, you will start your adventure in one of the most vibrant and cultural cities in Vietnam. We would like to take you to the must-visit tourist attractions on the first day. So you will travel around District 1 in the morning and visit Cu Chi Tunnels in the afternoon.

Cathedral Notre-Dame has impressive colorful and elegant glass windows, 57.6 m bell towers housing 6 bells since 1879 with the total weight of 30 tons, two 3.5 m crosses on the top of the towers, 1.2 m thick walls built of high quality red bricks produced in the 19th century. This building is the pride of Saigon people and has become the iconic site of the city. Located at the same point as the cathedral on the opposite side, Saigon Central Post Office has Gothic, Renaissance and French colonial design. It has a splendid interior with the arched ceilings which look like the ceilings of a European railway station. These are the two most photographic spots in Saigon.

Independence Palace was home to Nguyen Van Thieu – the President of the Republic of Vietnam and it is one of the reasons why you should not miss this landmark where you can see the magnificent architecture and expensive furniture and decoration items. You should note the gate which was crashed by two tanks driven by Vietcong soldiers on 30th April 1975, it marked the end of the Vietnam War.

War Remnants Museum features 15,000 artifacts telling stories and providing information about the Vietnam War, war crimes, Orange Agent, consequences of war. If you ask us which is the must-visit museum in Vietnam, the answer is definitely War Remnants Museum.

Ben Thanh Market is the place where you will have tens of things to do: admiring the beautiful French Indochinese design, enjoying Vietnamese food, learning more about the market culture in the city, wandering the 13,056 m2 market and choose many great items to buy.

Afternoon – less-touristy Ben Duoc Site in Cu Chi

You will go to the hotel and take a rest or start the journey to Cu Chi Tunnels after lunch.

It takes approximately 1.5 hours to drive from the city center to Cu Chi District. Upon your arrival at Ben Duoc Site, you will start exploring the heroic underground city – the fear of the enemies in dozens of years. Let me explain to you why we visit Ben Duoc instead of the more popular and closer Ben Dinh. As mentioned above, we would like to show you not only the must-see but also the less-known or non-touristy places. Ben Dinh Site has a small total area and is usually crowded and packed with international tourists. In addition, there are more things to see at Ben Duoc: displaying weapons, Liberated Zone, paintball shooting game,… In brief, there are many indoor and outdoor activities at Ben Duoc:

  • See how small and thin Vietnamese soldiers skillfully enter the secret entrances to the tunnels and use dry leaves to camouflage.
  • Learn more about the multilayer structure of the legendary tunnels.
  • See with your own eyes the ventilation system consisting fake termite mounds, and air holes.
  • See how they cook with the smokeless stoves invented by the famous Hoang Cam chef – soldier.
  • Walk in a large area, see, touch, even climb on weapons such as war planes, bullets, cannons, guns,…
  • Enter underground “houses” and “room” to experience being in the underground hospitals, kitchens, meeting rooms, living rooms, sleeping quarters, entertainment areas,…

Evening – cultural water puppet show, romantic dinner on cruise, amazing cyclo ride

Some people suppose they should not go out at night and spend time resting and sleeping in their hotel rooms on their trip to Vietnam. However, a trip to Ho Chi Minh City is not complete without enjoying the vibrant Saigon nightlife. It will be a non-stress and relaxing night because we have arranged a cyclo ride on which you will be driven around the city slowly and sightsee. More over, you will enter a lovely and cultural theater where talented artists including singers, Vietnamese traditional musical players, water puppet artists perform. You will be told folk stories and enjoy the unique water puppet show.

After that, you will be transferred to the the wharf where many cruises dock and welcome passengers. You will board on a nice cruise by the hospitable staff. Then it will be time for dinner, you will choose to enjoy a buffet or a set menu. They also perform traditional Vietnamese music, nice dancers are the highlights of the cruise. Moreover, it is not a floating restaurant but a cruise offering passengers an interesting itinerary. Cruising Saigon River, you will see the city coated with colorful lights from buildings, advertising signs, traffic signs and lights. What a romantic journey!

The second day – Mekong Delta, Saigon nightlife and food

Your hotel will serve you a breakfast or we will take you to a restaurant to enjoy a local breakfast. You will start a new day and spend the whole day visiting the green and peaceful Mekong Delta. However, we will take you to less touristy places where you will not meet many other tourists. You will not only travel but also live and have fun like locals. Your tour guide will become a friend taking you around the countryside.

There are many amazing outdoor and indoor activities:

  • Visit islands with a wide variety of strange things.
  • Cruise the Nine Dragon Rivers by ferry and boat, slip through zig-zag and narrow canals.
  • Visit fruit gardens, try plugging fruits, and enjoy smelling and juicy seasonal fruits.
  • Sample a succulent specialty dishes of Mekong Delta.
  • Visit some workshops where they make sedge mats and coconut brooms.

The third day – All the unseen places

Morning

A new day will start and you will feel be more familiar with Saigon and one part of the city. Let’s have breakfast like local people. You will be picked up at the hotel and taken to Tao Dan – one of the biggest, greenest and most favorite parks in Ho Chi Minh City. We will eat the best Banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) and sip some coffee (or coconut drink) in the early morning.

After that, we will continue the journey exploring Ho Chi Minh City. As mentioned above, there will be many brilliant hidden places.

  • Tan Dinh Market: This local market has a beautiful architecture and a large total area. In addition, the goods are diverse and high quality. Housewives can buy the freshest and best ingredients at the market. They sell products which can not be found at other smaller markets so Tan Dinh Market is also called Rich Market by local people. If you would like to buy some fabrics, Ao Dai fabrics, ready-to-wear Ao Dai, have your Ao Dai and suits tailor made, we will help you to choose at booths and shops inside the market or on the opposite side of market. Dried food are sold popularly at good prices at the market and you can buy some to bring home.
  • Tan Dinh Church (also called Pink Church): It is one of the most photographic churches in the city thanks to its splendid architecture, the mix of Roman, Gothic, Baroque designs, “round flower windows” and a small garden. It has been said to have the elegant European beauty and the classic Vietnamese beauty. It is a big miss if you do not take a photo at this lovely and photogenic pink church.
  • Jade Emperor Pagoda: You will visit one more “pink place” after the pink church. Entering the gate, you will see a pretty pagoda with pink walls and pink ponds. Ngoc Hoang Pagoda dedicated to Jade Emperor who was considered to be the ruler of Heaven. In addition, they also worship many other Taoist deities at beautifully and solemnly decorated altars.
  • Saigon Ranger Museum – Do Phu Cafe: This small house is usually missed by most tourists coming to Ho Chi Minh City because it is too small and less famous than large museums such as War Remnants Museum. However, you will have a chance to visit this nice house – the “red location” in the war – a secret place to hide weapons and Vietcong soldiers. We will continue the journey by visiting the following places:

  • Saigon Cao Dai Temple: Although Buddhism is the most popular religion in Vietnam, it does not originated in the country. Caodaism was established by Ngo Van Chieu – a Vietnamese district head of the French administration of Cochinchina. You will see many strange things in the temple: All-Seeing Eye symbol, big round columns with colorful dragons, impressive paintings which meanings will be explained on the tour.
  • Ten Thousands Buddha Pagoda: You will go up to the 4th floor and see the beautiful and magnificent interior design of the main hall where there are countless of Buddha statues in different sizes. The smallest statues are located on small petals of a lotus seat. The biggest statue is located on the main altar. Some travelers like the big bells and the cozy atmosphere at the pagoda.
  • Thien Hau Temple: The Sea Lady (Mazu) is an important goddess in Chinese community in Saigon because Chinese people immigrated to the country a few centuries before. She has protected and save many people on the sea. The sky heaven brings lights to the halls of the temple. Ceramic figurines depicting different animals and people in different positions are used to decorate the roofs. You can burn an incense stick and spray for happiness, peace, good health and wealth.
  • Cha Tam Church: The blend of Chinese and Roman architectures, three-arched-entrances gate, double tiles, Chinese characters, lotus on the top of the church, and red pillars are the highlights of the church. In addition, this is the place where Ngo Dinh Diem – the former president of the Republic of Vietnam from 1955 to 1963 hid during an attempted coup in 1963.
  • Binh Tay Market: The market is located in the center of Saigon China Town and one of the biggest wholesale markets in the city.   • Thich Quang Duc Memorial: We will stop at a place to learn more about the life of the heroic monk who killed himself by burning and died in a fire. The bronze statue of Quang Duc is 4 m high, the relief behind the statue tells the story about his protest against the government of Ngo Dinh Diem who prioritized Catholicism.

You will enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant. We will arrange healthy and comfortable Vietnamese dishes for your dinner because we understand that you need something to fill and warm your stomach.

Evening

We will not let you stay at home although this is the last night and some guests would like to stay at their hotel. In summary, it will be your choice and you can let us know when you book the package tour.

In case you choose to go out, we will take you to Bui Vien Street – the first pedestrian zone in Saigon to see how they eat and drink at bars, pubs, restaurants, street food stalls, and coffee shops. Saigonese, expats, travelers come there to enjoy crazy time.

If you are a young person, a solo traveler, or a bar lover, Bui Vien is the perfect choice. If you are a family with kids or an old adult, we will take you to Nguyen Hue Walking Street with nice restaurants, luxurious coffee shops, a few street food stalls, many street vendors,… The nearby City Hall and Saigon Opera House become more splendid at night.
