Ca Mau Travel Guide

Ca Mau Travel Guide: Ca Mau Province is located 370 km from Ho Chi Minh City, 180 km south of Can Tho City. Ca Mau City is situated on the south pole of Vietnam, far away from any travel province in the Mekong Delta. The East borders the East Sea, and the West and the South border the Gulf of Thailand, which is also the reason why Ca Mau is the province with the longest coastline with nearly 254 km. Ca Mau Province is a land region having lots of swamps, rivers, small canals, mangrove forests, houses on stilts,- hidden villages, and a birding paradise. Few international tourists visited Ca Mau before but the number of visitors increased rather quickly now.

Why shouldn’t visitors miss Ca Mau Destination?

Conquering the South Pole of Viet Nam

Many tourists want to conquer the poles of the East, West, South, and North of Vietnam. Ca Mau Cape (Dat Mui Ca Mau) is the southernmost point of this country.

A special attraction is the many original creeks that meander wildly through the countryside.

Ca Mau City Bird Garden

The City Bird Garden is situated inside the Cultural Park, also known as Lam Vien May 19th Park, which has the City Bird Garden in Ca Mau City. This garden, which is located about 2 kilometers to the west of the city’s center, serves as a home and annual gathering spot for several rare bird species. Including amusement parks, monuments, botanical gardens, stilt homes, Ho Chi Minh Pond, etc., the Cultural Park has a total area of 18.2 acres. Additionally, this park is home to a variety of typical tropical creatures including crocodiles, monkeys, snakes, lizards, and pythons. The bird garden is the park’s most visited location, though. This is a 2-ha woodland where tens of thousands of birds, storks, and other creatures congregate each afternoon. Other bird species, including teal, swans, and others, have started settling and reproducing in this region recently. The garden has recently been developed to a 6ha area that is surrounded by fencing during the past few of years. The City Bird Garden now has a harmonious beauty built of natural ponds, woodlands, flower bushes, and the most valued birds in Southeast Asia as a separate ecological site.

Ca Mau Cape – The South Pole of Vietnam

Ngoc Hien District in Ca Mau Province is where the Cape of Ca Mau is located. It is about 118 kilometers from Ca Mau City’s core. In addition to being the southernmost point in Vietnam, this site is special for tourism since it is the only area in the country where it is possible to witness the sunrise in the East and set in the West clearly. At the close of the 17th century, the cape was found. Look out over the limitless ocean and the rugged Khoai Island just off the shore while standing next to a boat-shaped monument indicating the latitude (8 degrees north) and longitude (104 degrees east) of this distant area. There is even an observation tower where you can get a wonderful view of the mangrove trees, as well as a café that is perched over the sea with hammocks.

Hon Khoai Island

The Hon Khoai Island is situated in Ca Mau Province’s Ngoc Hien District only 14.6 kilometers southwest of Nam Can Town. On this stone island, the hills and the forest still contain a variety of unique species of plants, animals, and timber, as well as a captivating, undeveloped wildness. You may go to the magnificent Hon Khoai Island, one of the most stunning islands in the country’s southernmost area, in three fun hours on the 90CV trip from RachGoc (the entrance to the East Sea of Ngoc Hien District). Hon Khoai Island should not be confused with the Hon Khoai archipelago, a collection of five magnificent islands. The Hon Khoai Island is the largest and tallest of the five islands that encircle it. All visitors who visit Hon Khoai Island may take in the seashores’ lyrical beauty and plenty of white, egg-shaped pebbles. Visitors can also test their courage by scaling mountains or exploring the tropical jungle. Whatever they choose to do, they will occasionally be rendered speechless by the unique and precious panorama of a primeval forest with more than 1000 different plant species and hundreds of different species of wild animals. At the end of the 19th century, the French constructed a stunning lighthouse that is still standing today on the highest point of Hon Khoai Island. Here, a renowned educator by the name of Pham Ngoc Hien helped a gang of inmates defeat the island’s French ruler and take control of the lighthouse. This amazing feat is still told in local lore to this day. Visitors may use the telescopes from this lighthouse to get a close-up view of Hon Doi Moi, one of the five nearby islands that resemble a tortoise swimming in the middle of the ocean. The ability to utilize the telescopes to see the Cape of Ca Mau allows visitors to experience the beauty of the cape from distance, which is what makes it so unique. Such an opportunity would almost certainly not exist if you didn’t travel to Hon Khoai!

Mui Ca Mau National Park

Ca Mau invites you to visit throughout every season of the year, as each will undoubtedly provide you with unique pleasures. However, due to the uniqueness of the environment and ecosystem, the dry season, which lasts from November to April, is the optimum time to visit Ca Mau.

The natural environment of Ca Mau Cape National Park, which is rich of mangrove forests and home to numerous birds, wild animals, and fish, gives Ca Mau the particular charm of a recently found land: mysterious and new at the same time. The enormous mangrove forests, which are the meeting point of the East Sea and the West Sea and are home to a variety of wild flora and animals, are unquestionably the most notable aspect of this region. The most valuable plant species also grow as the forest’s size significantly grows each year, which is advantageous to the wild creatures that live there. Over 240 plant species, 36 mammal species, 194 bird species, and 260 fish species are thought to exist, many of which are endangered. The Hon Khoai Archipelago, which is 20 kilometers off the mainland, is seen from Cape Ca Mau. There are a ton of stunning islands in this group, including Hon Tuong, Hon Sao, Hon Kho, Hon Lon, Hon Doi Moi, etc. The Hon Khoai Island is the largest and tallest, measuring 4 km2 in width and 318 m in height. Visit this amazing island instead of just standing still and gazing! In the Gulf of Thailand and the East Sea, this is where you may discover the most significant (and perhaps most romantic) lighthouse!

Grilled Vop clams with salt and pepper

This province’s mangrove forest is home to a distinctive and varied ecology, including a kind of clam that is a rare specialty and can be prepared for a variety of mouthwatering meals, but the best is grilled Vop clams with salt, pepper, and lemon. The 3–4 cm Vop clams are cleaned, drained, and then roasted over charcoal while being seasoned with salt, pepper, lemon, and monosodium glutamate. In order to improve the flavor, Ca Mau residents frequently add peanuts, a little onion oil, and vegetables such as laksa leaves, herbs, and basil. When you eat, the sweetness of the clam, the freshness of the vegetables, the sourness and saltiness, and the distinct aroma of charcoal will all be felt in your mouth. Any visitor to Ca Mau Province will be drawn in by this flavorful and distinctive cuisine that combines the flavors of the sea and the forest.

Grilled snakehead fish

A specialty that shouldn’t be overlooked is grilled snakehead fish, especially if it has to be cooked with straw because the fish meat will be flavorful and delectable. After the straw is burned, the fish is removed and the charred black scales on the outside are scraped off to reveal a fresh, hot, golden-grilled flesh with an irresistible scent. Our Ca Mau travel advice states that grilled snakehead fish should be wrapped in rice paper with vermicelli, lettuce, herbs, etc, and dipped in thick tamarind fish sauce or fish sauce blended with garlic, lemon, pepper, sugar, etc. The combination of the pungent flavor of a drink with the salty, sweet, sour, spicy, and meaty qualities of fish meat is unparalleled.

Grilled mudskipper fish

In the region of Ca Mau Cape, grilled mudskippers with salt and pepper are a well-known delicacy. Despite its unattractive exterior, the flesh is extremely firm, sweet, aromatic, and fish-free, and it can be used to create a variety of mouthwatering recipes that have people raving endlessly. Fresh fish is cleaned of any muck before being rinsed, marinated, then cooked over medium heat on a charcoal grill until the skin becomes yellow and releases a delicious aroma. The correct dipping sauce must be used while eating grilled mudskippers with salt and pepper. They should also be served with vermicelli, rice paper, and vegetables like broccoli, salad, herbs, and tart star fruit.

The tastiest food in Ca Mau is thought to be young bee salad. Pupae salad is grilled with spices after harvest rather than being consumed as a fish salad. Don Ca Tai Tu & Da Co Hoai Lang

The people of the Mekong Delta are known for their love of music. Don Ca Tai Tu, a Vietnamese style of folk opera originally from the Mekong Delta, is a mix of ballads and theatre accompanied by a musician playing the zither or, in modern renditions, a guitar. The amusing storylines are often set in Vietnam’s countryside and can be lighthearted, sorrowful, or both. Regardless of language barriers, it’s easy to enjoy Don Ca Tai Tu, thanks to expressive acting and melodious singing. Ca Mau gardens and homestays are some of the places that perform Don Ca Tai Tu music throughout the day and at dinnertime.
