Da Loc pyramidal glutinous rice cake (Banh u Da Loc) is one of the specialty foods of Tra Vinh province. Originated in Huong Phu hamlet, Da Loc commune-level town, Chau Thanh district, Tra Vinh province, this traditional cake has been more and more popular. It has become a favorite food of locals and people in other regions of the country for its great taste and rich nutrition. It is eaten as a meal or a light meal at any time of the day. The cake is also offered to ancestors at the Worm-killing festival.

Having a pyramidal shape, the cake is made from glutinous rice and originated in Da Loc. So that it is called pyramidal glutinous rice cake. The crust of Banh u Da Loc is made from glutinous rice and katuk leaves. Katuk leaf juice makes the crust green and enhances its flavor. The filling of the cake is made from salted duck egg yolk, pork belly, and mung bean paste. The cake is a perfect blend of sticky crust; salty, buttery salted duck egg yolk; fatty, greasy, sweet-tasty pork belly; buttery and well-kneaded mung bean paste. Cutting the cake in half, you can see a beautiful cut with green glutinous rice, orange salted duck egg yolk, pink pork, white pork fat, yellow mung bean paste. It is not only nice looking but good tasty. Da Loc people wrap pyramidal glutinous rice cake in banana leaves and tie it with banana rope. It needs experience and skillfulness to wrap all of the ingredients into a pyramid. Ten cakes are usually tied into a bunch for selling.
