History of Dam Market In Nha Trang
This market is named Dam Market because it was originally a 7-hectare swamp reaching the Nha Trang estuary. And at the end of the swamp, there used to be a small market for people to exchange seafood every day. After that, in 1908, because of the increasing demand for the trade, the population increased, the small market was built into a larger central market called Dam Market.
The time has been going on, everything was becoming more and more developed, the old market was no longer able to meet the needs of the market and the growing population, causing pollution. In 1961, the authorities of Nha Trang City at that time planned to rebuild the market making it more spacious.
During the Vietnam war, Dam Market still operated, but its beauty and order were reduced significantly. Especially in 1975, Dam Market suffered from the devastation of the war, so its facilities were badly damaged. After that, the market was built and implemented with the participation of the Institute of Construction Design and Construction Company. Dam Market was not officially opened until February 1980.
