Itinerary

7h30 – 8h00: Our tour guide and car driver will pick you up at your hotel in Phong Nha/ Dong Hoi City, starting the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Quang Tri tour.

9h00: Tour guides of Phong Nha Explorer will take you to Vinh Moc tunnels. Vinh Moc Tunnel is 14km east of National Highway 1A. The tunnel is nearly 2km long and includes 3 levels deep underground. The 13 entrance doors are also the ventilation doors for the tunnel. This place was once the steel fortress of the socialist North during the years of resistance against America. Vinh Moc Tunnels are designed like a miniature underground village including 94 family apartments, with fresh water wells, a hall, a canteen, a maternity home, an operating room, bomb shelter. Especially, the Hoang Cam stove is a type of stove that can cook underground to limit the amount of smoke rising.

11h00: After visiting Vinh Moc area, you will come to Hien Luong Bridge. Hien Luong Bridge crosses the Ben Hai River, which divided
Vietnam became North and South during 21 years (1954-1975) of the Vietnam War. This is where struggles with flags, loudspeakers, and banners took place during the Vietnam War. You will walk on the Hien Luong Bridge, imagining the historical years of Vietnam.

12h00: You will have lunch at the restaurant in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri. After lunch, the group will depart to visit Quang Tri Ancient Citadel.

Quang Tri Ancient Citadel is located 500m east of Thach Han River. The citadel was built at the beginning of King Gia Long’s reign. In the 4th year of Minh Mang’s reign, the citadel was covered with soil. By the 8th year of Minh Mang, it was built with bricks.

This is where a fierce battle took place for 81 days and nights of smoke and fire to protect the ancient citadel, causing heavy losses to both sides. The Quang Tri Ancient Citadel is one of the special national monuments in Quang Tri.

The next stop to visit is La Vang Marian Sanctuary. The sanctuary is referred to as the Basilica of Our Lady of La Vang and is also the significant worship haven of the Catholics, legally recognized by the Vietnamese government.

16h00 – 16h30: The car will transfer you back to your hotel in Phong Nha Town or Dong Hoi City. End of (DMZ) Quang Tri tour.
