In 1960, the Dong Khoi movement’s first insurrection took place here. Ben Tre may be described as Dong Khoi’s “hometown”.

Dong Khoi, as it is known, is a movement led by Viet Minh members who stayed in South Vietnam to urge the populace to concurrently resist the old invaders, starting with the South’s vast rural areas and its highlands. Beginning at the end of 1959, the Dong Khoi movement continued until its apex in 1960. The rural grassroots government system of the Vietnamese government at the time was soon destroyed as the movement quickly swept throughout the South. The house is 24m high, 24.5m long, and 24m broad. The emblem of the Dong Khoi fire that is blazing brightly in the hearts of the people of Coconut is a red, 12-meter-tall, 4.5-meter-diameter torch constructed of reinforced concrete that is located on the roof. Booths showing objects from the ancient resistance era as well as figures, images, maps, and self-made weaponry are located within the traditional home. A big yard with flower beds and attractive plants, as well as lush grass all around the home, contribute to its allure. Additionally, rows of stone seats may be seen along the narrow passageways, where guests can relax after seeing the traditional home. On January 7, 1993, the Dong Khoi Guerrilla Village was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Information as a historical remnant of the national revolutionary movement. In order to draw visitors to the city, the administration of Ben Tre province designates January 17 (the date of the Dong Khoi movement) as a historical traditional festival and hosts conferences and entertaining events every year.
