How to get around Ho Chi Minh City?

You can easily catch a taxi in Saigon, the price is about 15,000 VND/km. In order to avoid taxi scams, you should choose Vinasun, Mai Linh which are the most popular taxi brands in the city. You can install the Grab app which is similar to Uber to book a ride at a better price. Motorbike rides can also be booked on Grab, a bike ride is cheaper than a car ride but less convenient.

Specialty food of Saigon

Broken rice: steamed broken rice topped with grilled pork, cucumber, tomato slices, daikon and carrot pickles

Vietnamese pancake: crispy yellow round crust, fillings including shrimp, pork, bean sprouts, mung bean, served with fish sauce dip, vegetables and herbs

Snail dishes & seafood dishes: grilled/stir-fried snails are strange to many foreigners but they are worth sampling

Crab noodle soup: thick rice noodles, viscous broth, and toppings including crab, shrimp, crab cake,…

Currency guide in Ho Chi Minh City

You can easily find ATM machines on main streets and withdraw money from your card. Please contact your bank to make sure it works when you are aboard. Although it is rather safe at ATMs in Vietnam, it is not recommended to withdraw VND cash. In my opinion, you should ask tour operators, restaurants for paying online. Your can bring some USD dollars (or other foreign currencies) and exchange money at gold shops or banks. Some street vendors, restaurants, cafes, tour agencies, and other places do not accept credit cards so that you should prepare some VND cash. Although credit cards scams are not very popular in Vietnam these days, you should be careful when they charge you.
