Big and many pieces of jewelries

Snatch thieves are popular in Ho Chi Minh City, especially in crowded areas in different districts of Saigon. Wearing too many pieces of jewelries or a big piece of jewelries make you be noticed by bad guys, thieves, pickpockets,… They may snatch your necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and make you fall when you are sitting on the back of the motorbike or walking on the street, in a small alley or a local market. A small or medium-sized necklace worn inside a high-neck blouse or T-shirt is okay. Small earrings, rings, bracelets can make you more beautiful and confident on your trip.

Travel documents

Travel documents, insurance documents, and similar documents should not be brought because they are useless on a half-day food tour. A bigger bag is needed to contain A4 documents and it makes your tour less enjoyable and comfortable in crowded areas and small street food stalls.

Passport

On half day tours and full day tours to Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta which are tens of kilometers from the city center, you should bring your passport. On a food tour that lasts a few hours, you can easily go back to your hotel at any time to get your passport. In case they steal your bag, you still have the passport at your hotel. We recommend leaving your passport in a secured luggage or the hotel safe.

So much money

You know that some tour companies and OTAs require to pay in advance when you book tours in Ho Chi Minh City as well as Vietnam. In this case, you do not need to pay at the end of the tour. If you do not pay in advance or pay the deposit, you can ask them to pay online or offline with credit card. If the total cost or the remaining amount is about a few hundreds of U.S. dollars, you can pay them by cash at the beginning or at the end of the tour. If the amount is more that $1000 USD, you should not carry a lot of cash on your food trip around the city. It is not safe to do that.

You should still carry cash, both U.S. dollars and Vietnamese Dong are recommended. There may be some good souvenirs, delicious foods and drinks on the way, and you would like to buy some. Some shops and vendors in the city only accept cash. In Vietnam, tipping for tour guides is considered your satisfaction and appreciation of the great service. You can tip your tour guide and/or driver from 50,000 to 2,500,000 VND (2 – 100 USD) at the end of the tour in cash.

Many credit cards

If you have many credit cards, you should let them in the safe in your hotel room. You should carry one or two credit cards on your Ho Chi Minh City food tour. The rule is that travelers should not put everything into their wallets and bags on city tours.

Snacks and light foods

On a Saigon sightseeing tour, Cu Chi tunnels tour, Mekong Delta tour on which you may walk and join some outdoor activities, but are served lunch or nothing, I usually recommend you to bring something to fill your hungry stomach. On Saigon food tours, there are many local dishes served at different local places so there is no need to carry snacks or light foods. In case you are on a diet, have food restrictions or food allergies, and join a food tour with your friends, you can bring your own foods.

Bottle of water

On Ho Chi Minh City Food Tour, they do not only serve various local dishes but also refreshing local drinks or pure water. You will not be thirsty on the tour. In case you would like to bring your own bottle of water or you need to drink a special type of water, you can carry a bottle of water on your own.

Helmet

In fact, some expats or backpackers have their own helmets and wouldn’t like to wear helmets provided by Saigon food tour providers. If you do not have a motorbike helmet available, you do not need to buy a new one. They have helmets in all sizes and you can notice them if you have an odd sized head.
