Saigon Cyclo

Cyclo was a very popular mean of transportation in Saigon in the 1950s and 1960s. Those days, it is easy to see and catch cyclos on the streets. Most of Saigon people from rich to poor are driven on cyclos to go on Saigon streets. Saigon cyclo has been an essential part of the city which was considered as the pearl of the Far East. The image of splendid women sitting on cyclos has been one of the most beautiful and unforgettable things in the hearts of many Saigon people and visitors.

Since the 1990s, people have switched to other means of transportation including motorized (automotive) 2-wheel and 4-wheel vehicles. At the end of the 1990s, cyclos were forbidden in some streets in Saigon. So that it was hard to find a cycle at that time. However, in the recent, riding cyclo has become one of the most interesting things for foreign tourists to do in some big cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hue City, Hanoi Capital, Hoi An ancient town in Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province. Tourists can pay about 50,000 VND for 1-hour ride on a cyclo, the price already includes a driver. They can also do cyclo tours which are totally different from normal tours by cars.  The cyclo tour companies offer unique and off-the-beaten-track tours with reasonable prices. In addition, the speed of cyclo is slow so that it is a great chance to sightsee, see how locals do on the streets, or just relax on cyclos.
