The Garden Mall (formerly known as Thuan Kieu Plaza) has been open since 22nd December 2015 and become a perfect destination for shopping and entertainment in Ho Chi Minh City. It is the only shopping mall in Cholon (China Town Saigon) area – the most crowded area where Chinese people live in Ho Chi Minh City. The Garden Mall is also a cultural center introducing Vietnamese culture and culture of Cholon area.

History of The Garden Mall
From Thuan Kieu Plaza
The construction of Thuan Kieu Plaza was started in 1994 and completed in 1998 in an area of 10,000 m2. The buildings have 33 floors and a total floor area of 100,000 m2. Located in Hong Bang Street – one of the main street in China Town, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, the buildings were expected to be a crowded shopping, entertainment and cultural complex.
However, the buildings had been no residents because of the inappropriate house design and the shopping centers had only a few stores due to lack of customers. There are lots of mysterious stories about Thuan Kieu Plaza including there have been ghosts around the buildings. It has been said the buildings look like a burner with 3 huge incenses in pink color from above or a distance. They were built to protect China Town from ghosts and devils, not for commercial purpose. Some people thought that it was in a shape of a boat which was broken by the crossing streets.

To The Garden Mall
In 2015, Thuan Kieu Plaza was bought by An Dong Investment Join Stock Company owned by Van Thinh Phat Group Corporation, then rehabilitated. On 3rd November 2017, the grand opening of The Garden Mall at the podiums of the buildings was announced.

Building, architecture and decoration
Inspire by both Eastern and Western cultures, the building is a mix of traditional and modern architectures. The buildings were painted green, concrete and alabaster walls were removed, glass walls and new elevators were installed. The facade of the podiums are decorated with models of bamboo trees. The mall has a new coat in green color – the color of life, nature, renewal, and energy, this color has the meanings of growth, fertility, harmony, freshness, and environment.

The Garden Mall shopping center has 3 floors with the total floor area of 24,000 m2, filled with lots of restaurants, cafes, supermarket, stores selling cosmetics, fashion and accessories, household furnishings and appliances, gym, game center, theater, swimming pool, especially the biggest bookstore with an area of 2,000 m2 on the 1st floor.

The first mythological flamingo garden has over 200 flamingo models arranged in a mythological place with Praying Lake, Wishing Tree and other strange flowers and plants. The garden is illuminated with modern led and lazer lighting system so that it looks stunning and majestic. The garden was display in front of the mall from 3rd to 12th November, 2017. The it has been placed in Cholon cultural area.
Inspired by the phrase “Đất lành chim đậu” which means “Good land birds come”, the flamingo garden shows the proud of people in Cholon area about the good land of China Town Saigon area.
