Raw sardine salad is one of the most popular and favorite dishes of not only locals but also visitors. Fresh sardine is cut thinly and put into lemon juice. Sardine pieces are served with sliced onion, purple shallot, herbs, shredded coconut meat, pepper and crushed peanuts. All of them are wrapped in rice paper and dipped in special fish sauce produced in Phu Quoc. It’s better to enjoy this dish with rose myrtle wine – a specialty of Phu Quoc.
Grilled abalone is worth a try although it’s an expensive dish. It’s not only delicious but also healthy. The dish has attractive smell and flavorful taste. It can win the heart of trickiest eater so that don’t miss this dish.
Coi bien mai is the muscle connected 2 shells of Bien mai – a triagle-shaped shell living in the sea. The meat of Bien mai isn’t delicious enough to eat. Coi bien mai is used to cook many tasty dishes such as stir-fried Coi bien mai with fungus, mushroom, onion and green. The best way to cook this food is grilling it with salt and pepper.
Grilled sea urchin with green onion oil is smelling and greasy so that you would love to eat again and again. After all thorns of the sea urchin are cut and thrown out, it is cut into 2 parts and cleaned carefully. Then it’s grilled on charcoal before green onion oil is poured onto it. Dinners use spoons to get the sea urchin’s meat and add mixture of salt, black pepper and lemon juice onto the meat before eating.
Crab soup cake with soft-shell ocean crab is delicious dish with gelatinous broth cooked from pork bone and soft-shell ocean crab. The rice noodle is very thick and shorter than noodles of other popular Vietnamese rice noodle soups such as Pho, Hue noodle soup, rice noodle soup with crab… So that you don’t have to use chopsticks to eat this dish but a spoon. The meat of soft-shell ocean crab and herb are served as topping of the dish.
Soup cake is very popular in Phu Quoc and you can find a place to eat soup cake easily on this island. If you have enjoyed a bowl of Crab soup cake with soft-shell ocean crab, let’s enjoy soup caked with fish, shrimp and squid. It’s not less delicious than the one with ocean crab.
