Attractions and activities in North Phu Quoc

Black pepper in Phu Quoc is famous for special aroma and spicy flavor.  Located about 15km from Duong Dong – center of Phu Quoc, black pepper gardens in Khu Tuong, North Phu Quoc are one of the most popular places to visit in this island. You can see by your eyes long rows of green trees with thousands of pepper on them, learn more about how to grow the pepper tree and buy some dried pepper to bring home.

Mui Ganh Dau (Ganh Dau Cape) attracts tourists by its natural, wild and unique beauty. Ganh Dau has 500 km long bow-shaped beach. From there you can see the Cambodia – Vietnam maritime border. It’s also a best place to enjoy fresh and exotic seafood.

Hon Thom Islands are very well-known in Phu Quoc. These are perfect places to dive and see the coral reef, catch squids, visit fish farms and pearl farm. It takes 30 minutes to go to Hon Thom Islands from the wharf.

Suoi Da Ban (Da Ban Stream) has big rocks which shape are flat and wide like tables. That’s reason why Phu Quoc people call this stream Da Ban (Table Rock). It has been said that this is place where fairies come to play and swim when they leave the heaven to visit the earth.

Bao Tang Coi Nguoi (Coi Nguon Museum) is 9th biggest private museum in Vietnam where keeps many stories about Phu Quoc Island. So that it’s considered the soul of Phu Quoc. There are more than 3,000 antiques, including 300 books about Phu Quoc in Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, English and French. Besides, there are handcrafts made of “lua” wood and shell. There you can also see traditional houses on stilts, Phu Quoc Ridgeback and sea eagle conservation area. It’s worth a visit to come to Coi Nguon Museum. You can reach there easily because the museum is located on Tran Hung Dao street in the center of Phu Quoc.

Phu Quoc National Park covers more than 50% of the island with about 208 animal species. So that it’s worth a visit to enjoy the taste of the natural environment. You can walk or drive the motorbike through the park to discover things hidden inside.

Vinpearl Land Phu Quoc – an amusement park similar to Disney Land but on a smaller scale is the place where you can scream out your heart. There are free buses from Duong Dong town to the park which is located in North Phu Quoc.

Attractions and activities in West Phu Quoc

Mui Dinh Cau (Dinh Cau Cape) is one of the most visited tourist attractions where you can enjoy beautiful sights and relax. The rock masterpiece has a strange shape like a mountain with an ancient temple on the top. A couple of light blue ceramic dragon holds the moon on the roof of the temple. A one-century-old tree stands near the temple adds the last piece to the picture of Mui Dinh Cau. What’s better than enjoy the sunset at Mui Dinh Cau. This place is located in the center of Phu Quoc – Duong Dong so that you can walk there if you stay at a hotel in Duong Dong.

Bai Dai (Long Beach) is a 1500-meter-long beach with yellow sunlight, clean water, light wind and green trees. Because it’s located right in center of the island where there are airport, many restaurants and hotels, Bai Dai is very popular with tourists. Just walk from your hotel, you can sunbath, swim and enjoy seafoods on the beach. Bai Dai in Phu Quoc is one of Top 10 wild and beautiful in the world in accordance to BBC. It will be a very big miss if you don’t go to this beach on your trip to Phu Quoc.

Attractions and activities in East Phu Quoc

Suoi Tranh (Tranh Stream) is the place where many small streams through mountains join from June to August annually. The sight is extremely romantic with perfect blends of flower, mountain and stream. The sounds of the white foam stream make you feel like in wonderland. It’s good place to go picnic or swim in the stream. Suoi Tranh is located in East Phu Quoc and 10 km far from the center of Phu Quoc.

Coming to Ham Ninh old fishing village, you have chance to dive yourself into an old village where people made living by fishing. The life is still wild with stilts built by bamboo and leaves. People in this village make their living by catching ocean crab, diving for pearls and sea cucumbers. This is a perfect place to watch the sunrise and the sunset. And it will be a big miss if you don’t enjoy boiled fresh ocean crab with salt-pepper mixture. The highlight of ocean crab at the village is red color and solid meat. Ham Ninh old fishing is located far away from Duong Dong town 20 km.

Attractions and activities in South Phu Quoc

Bai Sao (Sao Beach or Star Beach) is one of the most beautiful beaches in Phu Quoc. It’s about 7 km long and has soft and white sand beach. It’s located in South Phu Quoc and it’s about 30 km from the center of Phu Quoc.

Bai Khem (Khem Beach) is famous for its white and soft sand. Coming there, you will not only have a chance to enjoy beautiful sight and swim but also enjoy grilled fishes and herring salad – a specialty food of Phu Quoc. Pearl farm on Khem beach is a good place to visit. Located in South Phu Quoc, Khem beach is 25 km far from Duong Dong town and 5 km from An Thoi wharf.

Mui Ong Doi (Ong Doi Cape) is a special position where you can watch the sun rises and falls at the same place. The cape with two sides with ocean attracts tourists with giant rocks, long beaches and multicolor coral reefs. There you can also see Gieng Tien – Fairy Well. This well is never empty and the well water is never salty although it’s located right on the beach.

Cay Dua prison in Phu Quoc was built in 1949-1950 by the French colonists to jail those who were dangerous to colonist government. The prison covers an area of 40,000 square meters (0.015 sq mi). The site shouldn’t be miss is “tiger’s cage”. At Cay Dua prison, you can see what happened with Vietnamese prisoners who fought for national freedom. You will learn more about the war, history and love Vietnam more. Cay Dua prison is located in Cay Dua village, An Thoi commune.

Fish sauce factory. Fish sauce plays an important role in Vietnamese cuisine. It is used as a condiment in various cuisines. It is an amber-colored liquid, which is extracted from the fermentation of fishes with salt. Fish sauce from Phu Quoc is famous for its special flavor and there are about 100 fish sauce factories on this island now. It’s a big chance for you to visit one of fish sauce factories to discover how to make the condiment that almost Vietnamese people love to eat. I would like to recommend you Phung Hung fish sauce factory, which is in the opposite of Phu Quoc prison in South Phu Quoc.

Ngoc Hien pearl farm. Mother Nature gives Phu Quoc not only beautiful sights with beaches and specialty foods but also expensive pearls.  Ngoc Hien pearl farm is one of biggest pearl farms in Phu Quoc. You can come there to witness process of doing oyster make pearls.

An Thoi Islands are best places for you to explore wild nature of Phu Quoc. From An Thoi wharf, you can take on a boat to discover deserted and quiet islands, catch fishes and dive to see coral reefs. You can join a one day tour around An Thoi Island to relax yourself and find out many interesting things about these amazing islands.

Phu Quoc Travel Guide – Some tips help you to plan your trip to Phu Quoc

Here are some tips I’d like to share in this Phu Quoc travel guide to help you to plan your trip to Phu Quoc more easily:

Places you should visit in North Phu Quoc are black pepper garden, Ganh Dau cape, Hon Thom Islands, Da Ban Stream, Coi Nguon Museum, Phu Quoc National park and Vinpearl Land Phu Quoc. Tourists usually spend one day to visit North Island by joining a group tour or private tour with driver and tour guide. If you have more time, you can spend two days to take around the North. You can also rent a car or motorbike to explore the North Island by yourself.

You can join a one day tour to visit Tranh Stream, Ham Ninh old fishing village in the East and Sao Beach, Khem Beach, Ong Doi Cape, Fish sauce factory, Ngoc Hien pearl farm. It’s perfect to spend one more day to discover An Thoi Islands.

Dinh Cau cape, Duong Dong town and Dai Beach are free for you to walk from your hotel in the center of Phu Quoc.

Phu Quoc Travel Guide – Recommended plan to Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

In this Phu Quoc travel guide, I’d like to recommend plan for you to stay on the island as below:

1. First day:

– Fly to Phu Quoc, arriving time is at about 6:00AM

– Go to the hotel by taxi or motorbike taxi. I would like to recommend you to book a hotel on Tran Hung Dao street near Dinh Cau and Dinh Cau night market in the center of Phu Quoc. The Phu Quoc air port is about 10km far from the center of Phu Quoc  – Duong Dong so that it takes about 15 minutes. Good taxis are Mai Linh and Hoang Long which price is 17,000VND/km.

– Leave the luggage at the hotel

– 8:30 AM, join a tour around South and East Phu Quoc

– 5:00 PM, return to the hotel and check-in, relax

– At night, walk or rent and drive a motorbike around the city. You can enjoy fresh seafood and go shopping at Dinh Cau night market.

2. Second day:

– Join a tour around North Phu Quoc from 8:30AM to 4:00 PM.

3. Third day:

– Visit Vinpearl land. Buy the ticket and go to Vinpearl land by free bus.

– Join a tour catching squid at night from 5:00 PM.

4. Fourth day:

– Join a tour in which you will go fishing and see coral reef from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

– Check out the hotel and leave Phu Quoc.
