Visiting Khmer pagodas is an activity not being able to miss when tourists come to Tra Vinh province. In the sphere of this writing, we talk about Ang Pagoda (Angkorajaborey), one of the most ancient Khmer pagodas in Tra Vinh province.
Ang Pagoda in Tra Vinh has an area of over 4ha, is located next to the cultural museum of Khmer people. Following the ancient notebook, the pagoda has had before 1715 and was restored in 1842. Ang Pagoda has a structural style of Southern Khmer Pagoda with bent and pointed roof. It is circle by a big old forest. Coming Ang Pagoda, we see the gate designed skillfully and harmoniously. On the top of the gate, there are 3 towers. The front of the two pillars is two statues of fairies.
The front of the main temple looks forward to the east. The Ang Pagoda in Tra Vinh is located on the foundation with the height of over 2m. The roofs of the temple are bent and heaped up together. The top is pointed the same as a top of the tower. The tops of the pillars have statues of fairies and birds. Inside the temple, there are big and high pillows carved dragon shape. Right in the middle of the temple is the altar. The statue of Buddha Shakyamuni has the height of 2.1m. It is placed on a high platform. Under the platform, there are 50 smaller statues of many different postures.
Being past many periods of history, the pagoda still saves many valuable ancient things, especially Buddhist prayer-book written on leaves of Corypha lecomtei. The temple is surrounded by old big trees. Thousands of kinds of birds have lived here for a long time. All make this place become quiet and peaceful one. Visiting the Ang Pagoda in Tra Vinh, seeing its taciturn image, quiet spacious space and listening to singing bird sound, tourists will have light relaxed feeling in spirit.
